What We Are About
Silkworth House was founded in 1995 as a 50c(3) non-profit
corporation. Founder and Director Frank Keane has spent the past
24 years working with alcoholics and drug addicts in their endeavor
to maintain long-term sobriety.
We do not accept people who are in denial of their disease. The
typical chemically dependent person who is referred to this facility
is the repeat relapser. Usually someone who has been exposed to
one or more types of treatment. This person may have served jail
or prison time, they may have more than one addiction and if so
this must be addressed. After many years of observing various types
of recovery programs we have put in place what we believe to be
the best type of program for this type of person.
The applicants must convince us at interview that they fully accept
that they are chemically dependent and that their lives have become
unmanageable. They must arrive at the facility with a job and $290
+$25 cleaning deposit for first two weeks accommodation and food.
Agree to complete our 120 day residential program. Attend daily
12 step meetings, get a sponsor and start taking the steps as outlined
in the big book Alcoholics Anonymous. Extend a welcoming
hand to the newcomer, observe 11pm curfew, do allocated chores and
leave immediately if told to do so by management.
Residents will be randomly tested for drugs and alcohol. If resident
tests positive referring agency is notified and resident is required
to leave immediately.
We attribute our high success rate at Silkworth House to the fact
that by the time the person leaves us they have made the connection
in Alcoholics Anonymous. They will have developed a strong meeting
habit with a focus on long term recovery one day at a time. They
will be available to talk to newcomers and guide them through their
early days of confusion. They will convey the simple formula of
taking actions they may not believe in.
This is a very simple program and we believe the two most important
words are show up. Meeting makers make it.
